MIDGET
What Is Midget Football: Ages in football: Atom (Born 2002 to 2005), Peewee (Born 2000 and 2001) Bantam (Born 1998 or 1999) Midget football is for players that are in Grade 9 (Born 1997) to Grade 11. Midget football is a developmental league intended to get players ready for the upcoming High School season.
When Does It Run: Midget football runs from March 1st to May 15th of every year.
Who Runs It: Midget football is a community run football program under the rules of the CDMFA (Capital District Minor Football Association). In Parkland, the Midget program is run jointly by Spruce Grove & District Minor Football (SGDMFA) and Stony Plain Minor Football Association (SPMFA). Anyone in the above mentioned grades and residing in the Parkland area is eligible to play Midget football.
When Are Practices: We try to practice twice a week, usually Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Where We Practice: We book the fields at Fuhr Sports Park so we can do some hitting before the season starts. If the weather does not co-operate and it is too cold, too much snow or icy conditions, we find alternate practice locations. Alternates can be the Tri Leisure Centre when available on short notice or gyms in either Spruce Grove or Stony Plain. On some occasions the practice location changes on a very short time frame. The coaches will tell the players at the end of practice if there are any changes.
What We Supply: We supply all the football equipment for the players.
What You Supply: You will require to have cleats, (no metal cleats are allowed on any fields), and a girdle. Our Equipment Guys have girdles available for purchase. Depending on the position that the player will be playing the requirements of the girdle are different. The costs of the girdles are as follows: $50, $60 or $70. If you wish you can buy your girdle at a sports store (ex: United Cycle) but you will probably find the prices to be higher at the sports store. Football players do not require Jock Straps.
Players Purchase Jersey: Players purchase their jersey for $70.00. The jersey they purchase will be their game jersey and number for their complete Midget career. The players are eligible to play for three years.
Cost: Registration is $250.00, Jersey $70.00, Fundraising Ticket Book $100.00 (You keep the money once the tickets are sold). Total cost of Midget Football is $420.00 initially, but you can recoupe $100.00 when you sell the ticket book. At the time of registration you are required to leave us two cheques that are undated made out to “SGDMFA Midget”, one is for $250.00 (just in case you do not bring our equipment back the cheque will be cashed) and one for $50.00 (if the equipment does not come back clean this will cover the cleaning costs).
Head Coach: Adam Cottrell is head coach of the midget teams this year. He will be gathering up the coaches he requires for the two teams.
Volunteers: Everyone involved with Midget Football is a volunteer, there are no paid positions.
Registration Forms: You can go on www.sgdmfa.com website and click on the “Midget” tab and then on “Complete Registration Forms”, they are interactive so you can type in all of the information and print them off, you only have to sign in the appropriate places and bring in the forms to the manager. Please remember to bring in your child’s birth certificate and his/her report card for us to view. We can no longer retain a copy of this information because of FOIP.
